KYC policy

Know Your Customer checks protect tenants, landlords and MYRENTA from fraud. Here is exactly what we ask for and why.

Tenants

Before financing is approved, every tenant completes:

  • NIN and BVN verification against official databases.
  • A selfie with liveness detection, matched to your ID photo.
  • Employment verification: employer details, offer or confirmation letter, payslip and work email.
  • Six months of bank statements for income, inflow stability and affordability assessment.

Landlords

A landlord cannot publish a listing until we have verified:

  • Government-issued ID and a matching selfie.
  • BVN or NIN.
  • Proof of ownership or right to let: C of O, deed, utility bill or tenancy history.
  • A bank account for payouts, in the verified owner's name.

Agents

Agents complete the same identity checks, plus agency registration details such as CAC documents and written authority from the landlord they represent.

Decisions and review

Most checks are automated and return the same day. Where results are inconclusive, a MYRENTA reviewer looks at the file manually, usually within two business days. You will always be told what is missing and what to do next.

Ongoing monitoring

Verification may be refreshed at renewal, when repayment behaviour changes materially, or where we detect signs of fraud. Accounts that fail verification are declined and the reason explained.
